It's been a big week as Wednesday was the first day working on my new venture. Quitting was surprisingly hard to do, especially as Truphone was a pretty exciting place and the people I worked with were great. In the end though I really want to get this built and couldn't wait any longer.
Things seem to be going well so far, with a lot of the technical nuts and bolts coming together. As a quick check that everything was working I pulled together something I have wanted for a while at various past jobs - a milestone slip chart drawing tool.
Feedback so far has been really positive from the potential customers I have talked too, which is a great sign. I have particularly enjoyed talking to people who were engaged enough with the idea to offer suggestions for how to make it better. There's no shortage of people willing to try out the beta - now the challenge is converting expressions of interest into paying customers!
I have received a lot of conflicting advice about the tone to use on the website of a one person company. Opinions seem to be roughly evenly split between trying to make the company sound huge and being honest about being small. On the whole I'd rather be honest - The Plan Is might be small right now but it is financially secure and it will grow.
So, what's next? Carrying on with improvements based on the feedback from the closed trial, and doing all the technical work ready to expand to more trial users in October. If you are interested in being included drop me an e-mail at rs@theplanis.com.
